iBlog: The 15th Philippine Blogging Summit #iblog15

iBlog5 Invitation

Today, the Pinoy blogging community anticipates the happening of THE next Philippine Blogging Summit. The 1st Philippine Blogging Summit was successfully held on May 7, 2005 at the NISMED Auditorium, when blogging was still in its infancy in the country. Driven by the increasing interest of journalists, lawyers, academicians, artists, writers and ordinary people, as well, Prof. JJ Disini proposed the holding of the first ever blogging summit in the Philippines.

As a result of the success of the previous year’s Summit, the 2nd Philippine Blogging Summit was held on April 18, 2006. Topics included legal implications of blogging such as libel and copyright infringement, blogging as a full-time profession, blogging how-tos and podcasting. More than 200 participants attended and guest speakers included 15 of the famous bloggers of 2006.

A two-day event, the 3rd Philippine Blogging Summit was held in the Auditorium of the School of Economics. The Summit explored the potential social and political impact of blogging, and included a discussion on issues pertaining to entertainment, law and politics, art and literary, media and podcasting blogging in the Philippines. The event was said to encourage the growth of blogging in the Philippines.

The 4th Philippine Blogging Summit was held last April 26, 2008 at the Malcolm Theater. The program of activities included talks by key authorities on the origins and history of blogging, its development as a social phenomenon and widespread technology for communication and interaction, and its impact upon the legal profession.

This year, the 5th Philippine Blogging Summit will be held on May 9, 2009 at the Malcolm Theater of the UP College of Law, UP Diliman. This year’s summit will feature topics ranging from blogging basics to taking blogging to the next level. The summit will also prepare bloggers for the 2010 elections, with the release of The Bloggers Election Handbook.
